Lesson 3

Protect yourself online

Cybercriminals often target older adults. The good news is that a few simple habits can greatly increase your safety.

Create strong passwords

  • Use at least 12 characters
  • Include uppercase and lowercase letters
  • Use numbers and symbols
  • Never reuse passwords

Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring a text message code, app approval, or fingerprint verification.

Watch out for scams

  • Urgent messages asking for money
  • Emails requesting passwords
  • Phone calls claiming to be from the IRS or Microsoft
  • Links from unknown senders

Golden rule

When in doubt, don't click.

A real person will reach out. No pressure, no wrong questions.
